NEWS RELEASE 10/1/02 CONTACT: Mark Shwartz, News Service: (650) 723-9296, mshwartz@stanford.edu COMMENT: Fiona Sincock, Bio-X: (650) 724-3616, fsincock@Stanford.EDU Bio-X launches biosciences seminar series on Oct. 10The Bio-X program will hold the first in its monthly seminar series, "Frontiers in Interdisciplinary Biosciences," at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in Room 201 of the Teaching Center, Science and Engineering Quad. The seminar which is free and open to the public will be led by Krishna Shenoy, assistant professor of electrical engineering at Stanford. His topic is "Toward Neural Control of Prosthetic Devices." A pre-seminar will be held at 3:15 p.m. in Room 101 of the Teaching Center to provide general background on the subject. Shenoy's seminar is one of 10 that will be offered between October and May on cutting-edge research in the biosciences. Among the guest speakers will be scientists from Harvard, Caltech, Rice and other institutions. A schedule is available at the Bio-X website: http://biox.stanford.edu. The seminar series also is offered as a course for registered students with an interest in science.
